Before the Winter, After the Fall
2006

After Winter, Before the Fall (Avant L’ Hiver, Après L’ Automne) suggests the place and space between seasons, emotion and relationship. The series explores the placement, juxtaposition and groupings of landscape, portrait and colour to convey notions of memory, recollection, place, time, motion, reflection, connection and change - playing with the pairing of visual opposites and similarities (in seasons, light and dark, warm and cold, dense and sparse, intense and calm). Using photography, the artist references classic formal elements of film, design and painting. Using visual elements to connect and represent the conceptual ideas of fiction and possible narrative (both personal and common).
